Manbij — A series of awareness-raising seminars and meetings have been organized by the Democratic Union Party to eliminate violence against women. When women are subjected to violence, it affects the entire community.
The Democratic Union Party (PYD) has launched an awareness-raising campaign in Manbij and its suburbs to eliminate violence against women with the motto, “With the struggle and unity of women, we eliminate gender-based violence” in partnership with the Zenobia Women Gathering. The campaign aims to raise public awareness about the need of supporting and fighting for women's freedom by educating all sectors of society and their organizations.
"Women are a powerful force in achieving democratic change and transformation”
The meetings will focus on fundamental principles, including the right to life and work without gender discrimination, the fight against reactionary thought, and the realization of women's freedom in terms of equality and social justice, all of which are based on the premise that "Women are a powerful force in achieving democratic change and transformation.”
The initial meeting was held in the city and women distributed leaflets in the city before the meeting.
Elimination of gender-based violence in the region
"We launched this campaign to eliminate gender-based violence not only in the city of Manbij but also all regions. We started distributing awareness-raising brochures about killing women because recently many cases of violence against women have appeared despite the laws in force,” said Reem Darwish, the administrator of the Women's Council of the Democratic Union Party office in Manbij and its countryside.
"As the women’s council of the Democratic Union Party, we give information to women so that women can protect themselves and be aware of what is happening on around them in order to legitimize their murders and brutality," she stated.
“When women are subjected to violence, it affects the entire community”
Rabaa Bakr, Spokesperson of the Education Committee of the Zenobia Women's Gathering said, "We joined this campaign launched by the Democratic Union Party to be part of lessening the rate of violence and murder perpetrated against women. Through this meeting, we wanted to make women aware of the extent of violence perpetrated against them, and we wanted to convey to them the idea that they do not have to accept violence, because when women are subjected to violence, it affects the entire community so everyone should be aware of what it truly means to be abused.”
