Tishreen- The civilian vigil started on the Tishreen Dam against the Turkish attacks continues; women treat those who injured in the Turkish attacks. Sûriya Mihemed, a displaced woman of Serêkanîyê living in the Waşûkanî (Washukani) camp, joined the civilian vigil on January 28 to protest the Turkish attacks on the dam. A NuJINHA team spoke to her while sitting next to an injured young woman.
‘We resist in order protecting our history and existence’
At the beginning of her speech, Sûriya Mihemed drew attention to Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan’s paradigm based on democracy, women’s freedom and ecology. “Thanks to leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan), people from different identities have united and had a life in a fraternity in the region. They recognize and respect each other. Now, we resist the attacks on the Tishreen Dam to protect our history and existence.”
‘We resist the attacks by chanting the ‘To live is to resist’ slogan’
Sûriya Mihemed wished a speedy recovery to the people injured in Kobanê. “We will defend Kobanê to the end. We will liberate all the occupied areas, including Serêkanîyê and Afrin. We resist the attacks by chanting the ‘To live is to resist’ slogan.”
‘Erdoğan goes beyond the borders and bombs civilians’
Sûriya Mihemed criticized the international silence against the Turkish attacks targeting civilians in North and East Syria. “Erdoğan goes beyond the borders and bombs civilians every day. As civilians, we are here to defend our dam; however, we are targeted by Turkish drones and warplanes. Despite all the attacks targeting civilians, the international community and human rights organizations remain silent. All countries must take a serious stance against the attacks.”
Criticism on international organizations for their hypocritical attitude
“Turkish President Erdoğan cannot annihilate millions of Kurds,” Sûriya Muhammed underlined and concluded her speech as follows:
“The Turkish state aims to annihilate millions of Kurds. Erdoğan claims that the Turkish state is a democratic state. I want to understand what kind of democracy that Erdoğan talks about. If the Turkish state were a democratic country, it would not target civilians. Many countries express their support to the SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) and say they owe the SDF; however, they remain silent against the Turkish attacks. They have a hypocritical attitude toward Türkiye. If they really supported the SDF, they would put pressure on Türkiye to stop its attacks on North and East Syria.”
