Rıha – Refusing to be forced into marriage and resisting all oppression for a month, Amara Dwla, a Syrian of Palestinian origin, was burned to death by her father Mohammad Dwla in the Şıhmaksut neighborhood of Urfa’s Eyyübiye district of Urfa last year on September 2. While Mohammad Dwla fled after killing his daughter, their neighbors called police after the burning smell. 13-year-old Amara Dwla was taken to a hospital; however, she died at the hospital despite all medical efforts. As part of the investigation launched into the incident, the perpetrator was detained in a park and sent to prison. Dead body of Amara Dwla was buried in the common grave since she did not have any relatives.
The ATK could not prepare a report for a year
An autopsy report was expected for a year in order to be included in the indictment. The Urfa Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has prepared the indictment after 13 months since the Forensic Medicine Institution (ATK) has prepared no autopsy report. The six-page indictment includes the statement of the perpetrator and it states that no autopsy report has been prepared by the ATK to be included.
The statements of the neighbors deny the statement of the perpetrator
While the perpetrator Mohammad Dwla denies all accusations against him in his statement, the statements of the witnesses deny his statement. One of the witnesses said that before Amara Dwla was killed, she said, “My father puts me in such a situation.” Mohammad Dwla faces an aggravated life imprisonment for brutally killing his daughter.
The indictment also states that the father first tried to choke his daughter and then burned her to death.
Urfa Bar Association's Child Rights Commission made a statement and said that the date of the first hearing of the murder case has not been determined yet but they will follow the case.
