Shengal (Sinjar)- As the International Women’s Day is approaching, the Yazidi women in Shengal have speeded up their preparation. Women of Shengal will celebrate the International Women’s Day, like women in four parts of Kurdistan and everywhere else in the world, with the enthusiasm of the message of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan. “This year’s March 8 will be different from previous years,” they told NuJINHA.
The Stiya Nexşan Culture and Art Center, located in Shengal, has been preparing activities and events for the International Women’s Day for two months. The center will color in the celebrations for IWD with their songs folklore shows, just like every year.
‘We want to show great performance’
“As the members of the Stiya Nexşan Culture and Art Center, we have been making preparations for the International Women’s Day for about two months,” said Bêrîvan Şengalî, member of the Koma Bêrîvan, a musical group. “We have been rehearsing songs, folklore dances and theatre plays for two months. We all want to show great performance on March 8. On March 8, Koma Bêrîvan will take the stage to increase the enthusiasm of women.”
‘We will celebrate our day with the enthusiasm of the message of leader Apo’
Bêrîvan Şengalî pointed to the call of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan on February 27, 2025 and said, “The message from leader Abdullah Öcalan increased our enthusiasm and excitement. Therefore, this year’s March 8 will be different from previous years. I call on all women of Shengal to celebrate March 8 with the enthusiasm of the message of leader Apo.”
Call on women
Sosin Seydo, a member of the theatre group of the center, told us that they would perform a theater play about violence against women on March 8. “This year, we will celebrate our day with the message of leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan) and we call on all Yazidi women to celebrate their day with enthusiasm.”
Meanwhile, a musical group named Hêviyên Şengal consisting of girls aged between 10-13 will also perform on March 8 in Shengal. The members of the group called on all children in Shengal to “come and listen to our songs.”
