The “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign Continues for Its 99th Consecutive Week
In the 99th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, participants in 55 prisons across Iran announced a hunger strike in protest against the escalating executions in the country, which reached 67 cases in a single week.
News Center — Participants in the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign stated in their declaration that Iranian authorities are using executions as a tool of political and social repression, carried out in silence, reflecting the regime’s reliance on capital punishment to intimidate society.
In the 99th consecutive week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, participants organized protests across 55 prisons nationwide, coinciding with the International Day for Tolerance. In their statement, they said: “Over the past week, executions have continued at an accelerated pace, with at least 67 people executed, bringing the total to approximately 271 since the beginning of December. These executions are carried out without fair trials, without real access to independent legal representation, and in complete silence, indicating the entrenchment of executions as a tool of political and social repression.”
The statement noted that this week, Branch One of the Revolutionary Court in Mahabad issued a death sentence against Ramin Zila, a political prisoner held in Naqadeh Prison, on charges of “rebellion.” It also recalled that last week, Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran issued death sentences against six political prisoners held in Ghezel Hesar Prison, all members of the campaign: Babak Alipour, Pouya Ghobadi, Vahid Bani Amrian, Akbar Shahrokh, Daneshvar Kar, Mohammad Taqavi, and Abolhassan Montazer.
The statement further explained that Ehsan Rostami, a well-known activist in the field of books and publishing, was charged with “rebellion” and transferred to solitary confinement in Evin Prison, a move that significantly increases the risk of intensified pressure and execution. Continuing these repressive practices, authorities also arrested several participants in the funeral ceremony of lawyer Khosro Ali Kordi a few days ago, reflecting the same policy of exclusion and intimidation practiced against society.
The participants condemned the ongoing repression and accelerated executions, calling on the Iranian people, awakened consciences, and international human rights organizations to be the voice of prisoners sentenced to death, to amplify and follow up on their cases, and to provide practical and media support to their families.
Today, Tuesday, December 16, participants announced a hunger strike for the 99th consecutive week in 55 prisons, including Evin Prison (men’s and women’s wards), Ghezel Hesar Prison (Units 2, 3, and 4), Karaj Central Prison, Fardis Prison (Karaj), Greater Tehran Prison, Qarchak Prison, and Khorin and Varamin prisons.
