Kurdish women in Europe create initiative for national unity

Kurdish women living in Europe have created a new initiative for “National Unity of Kurdish Women in Europe”.

News Center- Kurdish women living in European countries announced Monday that they created a new initiative for “National Unity of Kurdish Women in Europe”.

“As women from four parts of Kurdistan, we come together on the 51st anniversary of the martyrdom of Leyla Qasim, one of the resistance symbols of Kurdish women, who was executed by the Baathist regime on May 12, 1974, inspired by the tradition of struggle of many women such as Sara, Hevrin Khalaf and Shirin Alam Hooli,” women said in a statement.

“Unity is existence,” the statement said, stressing that the initiative aims to unite young people to protect the women’s struggle, tradition and achievements and to preserve this heritage by uniting Kurdish women.

“As Kurdish women, who were forcibly displaced from their homeland, we support this historic step. With the strength and inspiration we derive from our century-long struggle, we express once again that we will follow in the footsteps of our women comrades who sacrificed their lives for freedom and democracy. Now, we are at an important stage of history in achieving our national unity and establishing a confederal, democratic organization of women. Therefore, we call on the representatives of women's organizations, our women comrades from all political parties, artists, intellectuals, writers and all women to come together under the umbrella of the initiative for the National Unity of Kurdish Women in Europe.

“As free Kurdish women, we should strengthen our unity and organize ourselves to build a free Kurdistan.”
