Ankara - Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Co-chair Pervin Buldan made a speech during the party group meeting. In her speech, she said that they determined their road map during the party’s meeting of the party’s provincial co-chairs. “Again, we have promised to save Turkey from the darkness without taking a step back in this difficult journey despite all the pressures and obstacles. Against those who try to put people in the darkness of fascism, HDP is a bright way to show the people that they are not helpless and they have alternatives with its programs, its principles, its ideology for a free and equal life, and organized power. It is a democratic alternative.”
“Violence has increased significantly”
In her speech, Pervin Buldan also talked about Turkey’s withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention. “We see how violence has increased significantly since Turkey withdrew from the Istanbul Convention. Only after the withdrawal decision, the press outlets have reported 12.000 cases of violence against women. Police officers deny the applications of women, who have been subjected to violence and the courts haven’t issued any protective orders. Last week, the building of Rosa Women’s Association was raided. Women were detained and eight of them have been sent to prison. Violence against women has increased significantly. The withdrawal is unlawful and as HDP, we have appealed to the Council of State and filed an annulment action against the withdrawal last week.”
“Women will strongly protect their achievements”
Stating that as women, they will never give up on their freedom, right to life, and constitutional rights, Pervin Buldan said, “Women will strongly protect their achievements by organizing and struggling more.”
