Türkiye: 6 women journalists sentenced to prison

Six women journalists in Türkiye have been each sentenced to five months in prison for protesting the detention of their colleagues.

News Center- The final hearing of the trial against six women journalists; Serpil Ünal, Yadigar Aygün, Pınar Gayıp, Eylem Nazlıer, Zeynep Kuray and Esra Soybir, who were forcibly detained while protesting the detention of their colleagues in Istanbul’s Kadıköy district on April 29, 2024, was held on Thursday.

Journalist Yadigar Aygün and the lawyers of the Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA) attended the hearing held at the 22nd Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance.

The prosecutor requested the journalists to be sentenced in prison on charges of “opposing the Law on Demonstrations and Marches No. 2911”.

Six journalists have been each sentenced to five months in prison on charges of “opposing the Law on Demonstrations and Marches No.2911”.
