Gaza- As International Women’s Day approaches, women in Palestine and all over the world have held activities and events to celebrate their day. The Palestinian NGO Forum to Combat Violence Against Women (Al Muntada) and the Amal Coalition to Combat Violence Against Women held a virtual conference on Tuesday (March 1) in the Gaza Strip with the motto, “Family Protection is a National Right: Experiences and Lessons”. At the conference, the women drew attention to how the “Family Protection Law” is a must for Palestine.

Zainab al-Ghunaimi, director of the Center for Women's Legal Research, Counseling, and Protection (CWLRCP), spoke to NuJINHA about the conference.

“Our aim is to enforce the law”

Speaking about the discussions at the conference, Zainab al-Ghunaimi said, “We held this conference as part of our activities for International Women’s Day, on March 8. The aim of the conference is to share experiences and lessons to enforce the drafted Family Protection Law, which hasn’t been enacted since 2004, in order to combat violence against women. The conference was held by the NGO Forum and Amal Coalition to Combat Violence Against Women to discuss how we can pressure the Palestinian Authority to pass the law.”
