The Jinên Şengalê (The Women of Shengal) song of Tara Mamedova is a song about the Yazidi women, who were killed, displaced and sold as slaves during the genocide committed against the Yazidi community by ISIS on August 3, 2014.
Tara Mamedova was born on April 22, 1983, into a Kurdish family living in Kyrgyzstan. Her family was forcibly displaced from the Doğubayazıt district of Ağrı to Armenia and then to Central Asia. She lived in the Kyrgyzstan city of Kök-Janggak for eight years. She moved to the Russian city of Saratov with her family after the collapse of the Soviet Union. She stayed in Saratov until 1996 and then moved to Moscow to study music, dance and theater at Yaroslavl Music and Art School.
