Qamishlo — The Bil Awaz Center in Qamishlo works to develop young talents in music, painting, and singing, offering trainees a space to practice their creativity.

Suzan Hassan, a painting instructor at Bil Awaz Center, said: “The Bil Awaz Center has been supporting young talents in painting, singing, and music for about a year now, providing opportunities for all talented individuals in the community. The center includes several departments, such as the music section, which offers lessons in violin, guitar, bouzouki, tambour, oud, and piano. It also works on developing young voices in singing and solfège, with a dedicated team for each section.”

She explained that teaching is carried out in an academic manner and that the center welcomes all age groups, adding,
“In recent years, young talents have been receiving more support to develop their skills, especially in specialized centers like ours. I believe people of all ages can nurture and enhance their talents, whatever they may be.”

Speaking about her own talent, she said, “I’ve been developing my painting skills for about four years now. I’m also a member of the Orchid Painting Team in Qamishlo, and I’ve greatly improved thanks to the support of my team, my family, and my friends.”

Regarding the stages of learning painting at the center, she said that trainees are taught from the beginner level to professionalism:
“We provide both moral and financial support to all talents who join the center,” adding,
“All young men and women should focus on nurturing their talents because it gives strength and self-improvement, which motivates one to live more positively.”

For her part, trainee Nalin Youssef said: “Since the opening of the center, I joined to learn singing and music. At first, I wanted to learn to play the tambour and bouzouki. As my learning journey progressed, I was able to improve myself and my talent even more. Today, I can play several string instruments, as well as the tambourine.”

She added, “I initially joined the center as a trainee, and now I’m working on developing myself to become part of the teaching staff at Bil Awaz. I received great support from my family and the center — especially from my father, who encouraged me a lot since he himself loves art and music. That gave me the motivation to improve and grow, along with my deep love for art.”

Nalin Youssef explained that the lessons are divided into theoretical and practical sessions:
“There are many of us, and our ages vary, but this difference was never an obstacle because we all share a great love for art, music, and painting. Art is a space for expressing emotions, and everyone should strive to achieve their dreams — whether in art or any other field. Talents sometimes save a person from reality and provide a sense of mental comfort. When we truly love a talent, we can develop it even further.”
