A young Yazidi woman identified as Reham Haji Hami, who was rescued by the Women's Defense Units (YPJ) has reunited with her family in Shengal after 11 years in ISIS captivity.

News Center- As the genocide committed by ISIS against the Yazidi community in Shengal is approaching, the Women’s Defense Units (YPJ) has liberated a young Yazidi woman identified as Reham Haji Hami from ISIS captivity. The YPJ handed over the young woman to Shengal Resistance Units (YBŞ) and the Shengal Women’s Units (YJŞ) to be returned to her family.

On Thursday evening, the YBŞ and the YJŞ returned 22-year-old Reham Haji Hami to her family in the Xanesor town of Shengal.

Reham Haji Hami was welcomed by her family and Yazidi women. Reham Haji Hami was just 11 years old when she was abducted by ISIS. “First of all, I would like to thank the YPJ and YJŞ for rescuing me from ISIS captivity,” she said after reuniting with her family. “I was very young when I was abducted by ISIS. The YPJ and YJŞ handed me over to my family after 11 years. I had lost hope of seeing my family again but I have reunited with my family after 11 years. I will never forget what I experienced. I hope all abducted women will be rescued.”

“I felt on top of the world when I saw my daughter,” said the mother of Reham Haji Hami.

Her mother thought that her daughter had been killed by ISIS. “I thought my daughter had been killed. But my daughter came back to me after 11 years. I thank all fighters, especially the YPJ for rescuing my daughter.”

‘We will liberate all Yazidi women’

Sozdar Şengalî made a speech on behalf of the YJŞ and said that the young woman was rescued by the YPJ and they returned her to her family in Shengal.

“One of the aims of our struggle and resistance is to liberate all Yazidi women taken captive by ISIS,” she said. “Our struggle will continue until we liberate all Yazidi women.”

“I hope all women taken captive by ISIS will be rescued,” Semira Berxwedan, a member of the Women’s Council in Dugure, a village of Shengal, told NuJINHA.
