Women’s Coalition forms Disaster Coordination Network
Established by the Women's Coalition to provide aid to earthquake victims, Disaster Coordination Network calls for international solidarity.
News Center- The Women’s Coalition has formed a Disaster Coordination Network to provide aid to earthquake victims and rebuild cities affected by the 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes centered in Maraş. Underlining that women, children, LGBTI+s and other marginalized groups are most affected by natural disasters and wars, the network aims to build a bridge between aid organizations and those in need and to ensure that women's organizations take an active part in every stage of disaster management. The network has announced that they will be everywhere affected by the earthquakes to heal the wounds of earthquake victims.
Call for solidarity
The Disaster Coordination Network aims to strengthen solidarity with earthquake victims by working coordinately with local organizations and to carry out activities in the cities affected by the earthquakes to support earthquake victims, who already left their cities or still live in their cities, in order to meet their needs and prevent rights violations by working coordinately with international women’s organizations. The network has called for national and international solidarity to provide support to earthquake victims.
Reaction to the declaration of the state of emergency
“Instead of mobilizing all public and private organizations to support earthquake victims; the declared state of emergency aims to prevent other organizations from supporting earthquake victims. As feminist, women and LGBTI+ organizations across Turkiye, women come together under the umbrella of the Disaster Coordination Network to struggle against the life and policies of patriarchy. We will be in solidarity with each other across Turkiye with our experiences and knowledge that we have gained by struggling for decades,” the statement released by the network said.
