Within One week… 491 Houthi Violatins in Taiz
The Yemeni Women’s Empoerment Foundation documented 491 Houthi violations against civilians in Taiz in one week, killing 130 and injuring 181, demanding urgent UN and international intervention.
NEWS CENTER– The Houthis continue to escalate their systematic violations against civilians in Yemen, which exacerbates the worst humanitarian crisis in the world amid an absence of international accountability, threatens the lives of millions, and destroys what remains of the country's basic life necessities.
The Yemeni Women's Empowerment Foundation (YWEF) documented 491 violations committed by the Houthis in Taiz city in the southwest of the country, during the period from 14 October to the twenty-second of the same month, including direct military attacks and targeting of civilians.
The Foundation revealed in its report "Taiz in a Week" that military attacks, including missile and artillery shelling, sniping operations, and landmine planting, alongside raids and stormings, resulted in the fall of 130 dead and 181 injured among civilians.
The report also documented 68 kidnapping cases, 74 home raids, and damage to 52 homes and 29 civilian vehicles, as a result of the launch of about 356 projectiles, including 9 ballistic missiles, concentrated on the districts of Sabr Al-Mawadim, Al-Masrakh, Al-Shamayteen, Al-Wazi'iyah, and neighborhoods inside Taiz city.
Killing, Destruction, and Stormings Targeting Civilians
The report drew attention to the targeting of civilians inside their homes and the killing of women and children as a result of artillery and missile shelling. Among the prominent incidents was the shelling of a house in the village of Kahalan in Jabal Sabr, which led to the killing of the child Maya Mahmoud and the injury of six civilians, most of them women and children. Shelling also targeted a neighborhood west of the city, causing deaths and injuries including children, and damaging homes and property.
The report also monitored the targeting of an ambulance in the Al-Sarari area of Sabr Al-Mawadim district, which resulted in the killing of the paramedic and a girl and the injury of an accompanying doctor. It added that Houthi crimes did not stop there, but targeted women and children inside their homes through sniping operations.
The violations included storming civilians' homes, looting their property, and assaulting women and the elderly. Among them was the storming of an elderly woman's house in Al-Silu district and the looting of its contents, before she was found killed by hanging. The Foundation confirmed in its report that these crimes represent grave assaults on the rights of civilians and the rules of international humanitarian law, and held Houthi leaders responsible for them.
The report demanded that humanitarian organizations, the United Nations, and the international community move urgently to protect civilians, stop the violations, and open investigations and hold those responsible accountable.
