Hasakah- On August 25, the General Command of Internal Security Forces in North and East Syria announced the launch of the second phase of the “Humanitarian and Security Operation” in al-Hol camp to pursue the ISIS cells with the support of the Women’s Defense Units (YPJ) and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). On the fourth day of the second phase, 12 suspects were arrested and five of them confessed to being ISIS members. The investigation launched into other people is still going on. In addition, 37 tents were discovered to be used by ISIS members as training centers, courts and torture places. 23-year-old Xedîce Nezîr, a Turkmen woman who has lived in the al-Hol camp with her three children for seven years, spoke to NuJINHA about the crimes committed by ISIS in the camp.

Stating that they came to the camp in order to go to Turkey, Xedîcê Nezîr said, “However, we could not go to Turkey. I stayed in the camp and then got married here. My husband is also a Turkmen and now we live in the camp with our three children. Everyday, people are killed, beheaded and kidnapped in the camp. You face punishment for every word. You will either remain silent or according to them, you should not use a wrong word. When people say a word that they should not say, they are killed and their bodies are thrown into a garbage van, water well or sewage. We live in fear. When a woman uses a wrong word, no news is received from her; she disappears.”

“Many innocent people are killed”

Indicating that they do not know anything about ISIS members and cells, Xedîcê Nezîr said, “We do not understand where they come from. Our Iraqi relatives used to visit us but now they do not because they are afraid. We pay the price for everything. We live in fear every day because our children can be shot to death at any moment. When ISIS members detect a person who smokes, we never hear from that person again. Before, the camp was a peaceful camp but everything has changed since the people came from Deir ez-Zor and Baxoz. Many innocent people are killed in the camp.”

Children are kidnapped

Underlining that they do not want to stay in the camp anymore, Xedîcê Nezîr said, “They use ropes to kill people. Every day, we hear the killing of at least a person. This camp is a dangerous camp. We do not send our children to school because children are kidnapped. Once, a child was kidnapped and then his body was found; his organs were stolen.”

They cannot go out in the evening

“When they want to kill a person, they first follow this person. Then, they kill this person at the marketplace. The women, who killed their husbands, kill their children so that they can remarry. We cannot go out of our tents in the evening. I do not want to live here anymore; I want to return to my country.”
