News Center — Iranian security authorities arrested Saba Sefidi, a Bahá'í citizen residing in Tehran, and transferred her to Qarchak Prison in Varamin, to serve a prison sentence of three years and five months issued against her earlier.

According to reports, Saba Sefidi was arrested yesterday, Thursday, September 10, in front of her home in Tehran, before being transferred to the Public Prosecutor's Office in Jenatabad, and then to Qarchak Prison in Varamin to serve her sentence.

Her arrest came despite her having previously obtained a two‑month grace period to surrender herself and begin serving the sentence, which was issued by Branch 36 of the Appeals Court in Tehran Province in December 2023, after she was convicted on charges of "membership in groups opposed to the regime." The court acquitted her at the appeals stage of the charge of "propaganda against the regime."

Branch 29 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran had previously issued a ruling against Saba Sefidi in November 2023.

Her case dates back to December 2021, when she was arrested after appearing before the Second Branch of the Public Prosecutor's Office in Evin. She was released about a month and a half later on financial bail of one billion and 500 million tomans.
