Sweida Legal Committee: HTS is driving Syria into civil war
The Sweida Legal Committee stated that the jihadist HTS interim administration is primarily responsible and complicit in crimes committed against thousands of citizens, stating, "The criminal cannot be his own judge."

News Center- The Sweida High Legal Committee rejected the statement made by the Syrian Transitional Government's Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the crisis in Sweida.
At a press conference, the Committee described the transitional government's stance as "a clear denial and evasion of responsibility for the massacre and crimes committed in Sweida in July" and called for an international investigation.
The Committee found the Transitional Government's statements regarding accountability under Syrian law "inconsistent." It emphasized that "criminals cannot be their own judges," and that the existing judicial mechanisms are neither politically motivated nor independent.
The Sweida Legal Committee accused the Transitional Government of being "the party obstructing efforts to unite and the primary accomplice in the crimes committed against thousands of citizens." The Committee stated that the trials carried out by the transitional government would amount to "covering up crimes."
The Committee emphasized that the people of Sweida have been subjected to human rights violations for years and that their right to self-determination has been deprived, calling for this right to be protected through self-government or democratic elections.
The Committee called on the UN and the Security Council to reject the measures imposed on the people of Sweida.
The Committee stated that what happened in July was not as the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described it, but rather a planned crime against humanity. It called for "a transparent international investigation, the accountability of the perpetrators, and the protection of the rights of the people of Sweida."
