Second phase of prisoner exchange conducted in Aleppo
The Council of Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods in Aleppo and Syria's interim government led by HTS conducted the second phase of the prisoner exchange in northern Aleppo on Monday.

Aleppo- In April 2025, an agreement was signed between the Council of Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods in Aleppo and Syria’s interim government led by Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). The agreement included prisoner exchanges. However, the second phase of the prisoner exchange scheduled for May 28, 2025 was postponed after the Syrian army refused to release the Women’s Defense Units (YPJ) prisoners. The second phase of the prisoner exchange was conducted in northern Aleppo on Monday. 469 prisoners were released from both sides.
293 Kurdish fighters and civilians and 176 members of the interim government were released as part of the second phase of the prisoner exchange.
The first phase of the prisoner exchange was conducted on April 3; 146 Kurdish fighters and civilians and 97 members of the interim government were released.
The second phase of the prisoner exchange scheduled for May 28, 2025 was postponed after the Syrian army refused to release the Women’s Defense Units (YPJ) fighters.
