No information from Baloch women arrested in Pakistan

No information has been received from the members of the Balochistan Unity Committee (Balochistan Yakjehti Committee, BYC), who were arrested in Pakistan on Saturday.

The Balochistan Unity Committee (Balochistan Yakjehti Committee, BYC) called for a sit-in and a general strike in the province on Saturday to protest the killing of civilians. However, Pakistani police attacked the protesters while participating in the peaceful sit-in protest in Quetta, Balochistan, arresting Dr. Mahrang Baloch, a prominent Baloch woman human rights defender, and 16 other protesters.

No information received from three women

The committee has released a written statement, expressing deep concerns for the safety of the arrested people. According to the statement, no information has been received from three women since they were arrested on Saturday. In the statement, the committee demanded the Pakistani authorities to give information about where the arrested people have been held and the release of the arrested people.

For two days, Baloch people have launched a social media campaign and held protests in the province, demanding the release of the arrested people.

Dr. Mahrang Baloch is a prominent Baloch woman human rights defender, who was named by BBC 100 Women among 100 most influential and inspiring women in 2024 and recognized by Time Magazine as one of its 100 Next Emerging Leaders of 2024.
