Mahvash Seydal transferred back to Evin prison despite her deteriorating health

Mahvash (Sayeh) Seydal, a political prisoner held in Evin Prison, has been transferred back to Evin prison from hospital despite her deteriorating health. The political prisoner has been on a hunger and medication strike for nine days.

News Center- Mahvash (Sayeh) Seydal, a political prisoner held in Evin Prison, has been on a hunger and medication strike for nine days in protest against the lack of adequate medical care in prison.

On Sunday evening, she was transferred from the prison to Taleghani Hospital in Tehran due to her deteriorating health. However, she was transferred back to Evin prison although she was diagnosed with a hemorrhagic cyst.

On May 26, 2025, she started a hunger and medication strike in Evin prison in protest against the lack of adequate medical care in prison.

Mahvash Seydal, who has a PhD in International Law, was first arrested on June 21, 2023, along with several other activists in Tehran. She was released on bail on July 23, 2023.

In November 2023, she was sentenced to one year in prison and a fine for “spreading falsehoods with the intent to disturb public opinion.” Her prison sentence had been suspended for five years.

On October 6, 2024, she was arrested by security forces and transferred to the women’s ward of Evin Prison. 

She was prosecuted by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court on charges including “spreading falsehoods” and was sentenced to two years in prison with a fine.
