Hasakah- The Kurdish delegation formed at the conference “Unity of Kurdish Position in Rojava” held in the city of Qamishlo (Qamishli) on April 26, 2025, will play important roles in the democratic transition of Syria. The delegation consists of nine people, including Kongra Star Spokesperson Rihan Loqo.
‘Kongra Star represents all women’
Women from different ethnic and religious groups in North and East Syria say that Kongra star represents the will and rights of all women in the region.
“Kongra Star has made great efforts to organize and unite women since the beginning of the revolution,” said Nura Nedin, an Arab woman in Hasakah. “The presence of Kongra Star in the delegation is an important step to protect women's rights. Kongra Star is an umbrella organization of women, representing all women in the region.”
‘It's time to protect women's gains’
“It’s time to protect women’s gains,” said Beyan Xelîl, a Kurdish woman in Hasakah. “Women have been organizing under the umbrella of Kongra Star since 2011. Women have achieved many gains by struggling to change their society. As women, we must now protect our rights and gains. The presence of Kongra Star in the Kurdish delegation means that the women's struggle is the most important cause and no solution is possible without it.”
‘Women’s participation in the talks is a must’
Newal Salum, a Syriac woman in Hasakah, thinks that women’s participation in politics and decision-making positions is important to protect women’s rights in Syria.
“The delegation will go to Damascus for the talks with the new government and women’s participation in the talks is very important. Kongra Star is a movement that has been working to organize women and protect their rights for years and its inclusion in this delegation is very important. Women in Syria are displaced, martyrs, mothers of martyrs and fighters and they have the right to have a say in the new Syria and their rights must be guaranteed by the constitution. As Syriac women, we think that this step is an important, sacred step to have a future in Syria.”
