Iraq repatriates 14,500 Iraqis from al-Hol camp since 2021

Iraq has repatriated more than 14,500 Iraqis from al-Hol camp located in the city of Hasakah, northeastern Syria, since 2021, Iraq’s Ministry of Migration and Displacement said on Wednesday.

News Center- Iraq has repatriated more than 14,500 Iraqis from the notorious al-Hol camp since 2021, Iraq’s Ministry of Migration and Displacement said on Wednesday. According to the ministry, 14,500 Iraqi nationals were repatriated from the camp in 24 groups.

“The total number of families repatriated from a-Hol camp since 2021 has reached 3,751 families, approximately 14,513 individuals,” said Ali Abbas, spokesperson for Iraq’s Ministry of Migration and Displacement.

“The process of returning families to their homes takes place after rehabilitation for a period ranging from four to six months, according to the specific requirements of each case, so that they can return to their areas,” Ali Abbas added.

Al-Hol camp, located in the Hasakah province of northeastern Syria, currently holds approximately 40,000 people from 42 nationalities, particularly families and relatives of ISIS militants.

Iraq and the UN have an agreement to return Iraqi nationals from Syria’s al-Hol camp by 2027.
