Female prisoners transferred to Qarchak prison
According to the received reports, the Iranian authorities transferred female prisoners held in Evin prison to Qarchak prison in the city of Varamin on Tuesday night without giving information to their families.
The inhabitants of the women’s ward of Evin prison have been transferred to the gym of Qarchak prison, Iranian prominent activist Sepideh Qolian said in a post on social media account X on Tuesday.
“The inhabitants of the Evin prison women's ward have been transferred to the gym of Qarchak prison, south of Tehran,” Dr. Kylie Moore-Gilbert, former prisoner and researcher, said Wednesday on X.
“I can report from first-hand experience that the Qarchak gym (basically an indoor basketball court) is completely inadequate as a location for housing anyone, it has no insulation (hot in summer, freezing in winter) only has one toilet and isn't even properly walled off from the outside, with pigeons and other birds frequently getting trapped and shitting all over the place. Why the gym? Qarchak is so chronically over-crowded they likely had nowhere else to put them.”
