Ankara — Questions continue to mount regarding the circumstances surrounding the death of Rojin Kabaiş in the city of Van, North Kurdistan, amid demands to uncover the truth and determine responsibilities.

The Women's Council of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Parti) has renewed its demand to uncover the circumstances surrounding the death of Rojin Kabaiş, who died in Van under conditions that raised numerous questions. The Council called on the Ministries of Health and Justice to clarify the data contained in the Forensic Medicine Institute's report regarding the presence of active pharmaceutical substances in her stomach and internal organs.

In a statement published on its social media account, the Women's Council stated that new information related to Rojin Kabaiş's death necessitates a comprehensive investigation to uncover the circumstances of her death and determine the source of the pharmaceutical substances mentioned in the forensic report, questioning who gave these drugs to the girl, when, and how they entered her body.

The Council considered that the continued ambiguity surrounding the case, despite two years passing and new information emerging, raises questions about the course of the investigation and the measures taken by relevant authorities to uncover the circumstances of the death.

 

"Why Have the Findings Not Been Subjected to a Comprehensive Investigation?"

The Council pointed to what it described as state institutions covering up femicides, considering that the Governor of Van's earlier announcement that Rojin Kabaiş's death was a suicide, before an autopsy was performed, is, in its expression, evidence of insufficient handling of the case.

It stated that the sequential emergence of new information regarding Rojin Kabaiş's death, alongside the continued silence of government officials, raises question marks about the reasons for the lack of sufficient progress in the investigation.

In this context, the Council stressed that the active pharmaceutical substances mentioned in the Forensic Medicine Institute's report should not be treated as data separate from the rest of the case details. Rather, their source and how they reached the victim must be determined, and whether they are related to the circumstances of her death.

The Women's Council directed a series of questions to the Ministries of Health and Justice, demanding clarifications regarding the circumstances of the case, foremost among them: Where did the active pharmaceutical substances found in Rojin's stomach and internal organs come from? Who gave her these drugs, and when was that done?

It also questioned whether the hospital records where the operation was performed had been examined, whether the testimonies of doctors and health workers connected to her case had been heard, in addition to the reasons for not opening a comprehensive investigation into these findings over the past two years.

The Council affirmed that answering these questions represents an essential step in understanding what happened and determining responsibilities, calling on the relevant authorities to handle the case with transparency and inform the public of the investigation results.

 

Uncovering the Truth Is a Responsibility Toward Women

The Women's Council linked Rojin Kabaiş's case to the broader issue of combating femicides and violence against women, considering that uncovering the truth in this case goes beyond the limits of an individual case and represents a test of the seriousness of institutions in handling women's cases and ensuring their right to justice.

The Women's Council concluded its statement by affirming that "uncovering the truth of the crime of murder of Rojin Kabaiş is a debt owed by this state to women," demanding the disclosure of all circumstances of the case and the accountability of those responsible according to the law.
