News Center- On June 8, 20 journalists and media workers were taken into custody in Diyarbakır. After being held in custody for eight days, 16 Kurdish journalists were arrested on June 16 while four of them were released.  The second appeals against 16 Kurdish journalists’ pre-trial detention have been rejected.

The journalists’ lawyer Resul Temur announced the Diyarbakır 1st Criminal Court of Peace has rejected the appeals against the journalists’ pre-trial detention. Resul Temur pointed out that the arrest of the journalists violates the right to a fair trial regulated in Article 36 of the Constitution and Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). Underlining that there is no direct accusation against his clients, Resul Temur stated that the accusations are related to the media organizations.

The court has ruled the continuation of the journalists’ detention

The Diyabakır 1st Criminal Court of Peace has rejected the appeals against the journalists’ pre-trial detention and ruled the continuation of the journalists’ detention.
