Leader Abdullah Öcalan:The Solution Lies in Democracy as a Guarantee for the Future of All Peoples.
Öcalan emphasized that the solution lies in democracyas a guarantee for the future of all peoples, stating that the era of armed struggle has ended and that the current stage represents a transition toward peace.
News Center— On March 27, a delegation from the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party traveled to İmralı Island to meet with leader Abdullah Öcalan. Within the framework of this meeting, a statement was issued affirming that the "Peace and Democratic Society" process has reached an important stage requiring a comprehensive approach that goes beyond a narrow perspective.
The delegation of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party issued a statement on Tuesday, March 31, regarding the meeting held with leader Abdullah Öcalan on İmralı Island. It stated: "Within the framework of our meetings with Mr. Abdullah Öcalan, we held a meeting on İmralı Island on March 27, 2026. It is visibly observed during the meetings that the process has reached an important stage. At this stage, it was emphasized that the path to resolution is an issue composed of multiple layers (dimensions) and must be evaluated through its aspects related to negotiation, democratic will, and historical responsibility."
The statement pointed to the responsibility and historical function incumbent upon the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (parliament) in this process; it was declared that the work to be carried out after the commission's report must be implemented within a coherent and comprehensive legal framework, without leaving it to the element of time.
It added: "As a delegation, this point emerged as a shared vision in our assessments; these historical opportunities must not be missed, and in order to implement the genuine will for resolution, channels of dialogue must be kept open and democratic politics strengthened. It was reaffirmed that democratic society is the guarantee of the future for all peoples and beliefs in Turkey. We are fully convinced that everyone who understands this process correctly and approaches it with responsibility will win not only the present but also the shared future."
The views and assessments of leader Abdullah Öcalan during the meeting are summarized briefly as follows:
"A narrow approach must not be taken toward this great issue we are trying to resolve. Because there are deep schemes of domination in the Middle East. In Syria, alongside the tragic situation, somewhat positive developments are occurring. Now also, the war in Iran is on the agenda. In the Iran war, three lines have emerged: the first is the line of the United States and Israel. The second is the line of protecting the status quo by some international and regional powers, led by England. The third line is the line of common life and democracy that we defend through the peace and democratic society process. The events taking place in Iran have once again revealed the legitimacy and importance of the process in Turkey.
We take as our basis the resolution within the Anatolia-Mesopotamia framework. The relationship between Anatolia and Mesopotamia has deep historical roots. The first major peace treaty in history was the Treaty of Kadesh between the Hittites and Egyptians. The four-thousand-year political history of the Middle East has shown that the security of Anatolia passes through the Middle East and Mesopotamia. Democratic integration means the participation of Mesopotamian culture as a democratic existence.
We have no problem with the republic. The fundamental issue is that the republic is not democratic. Democracy is the only solution that can strengthen the republic.
Mistakes, transgressions, and the undemocratic nature of societies and states in historical periods should not be viewed as an assault on sacred things. It must be said that protecting assimilation methods with a positivist mentality is like a narrow garment forced onto the country.
As I stated in my call issued on February 27, the era of armed struggle has ended. Returning to the past is no longer possible. The current process is the stage of transition to peace with the democratic republic. This process, which we hope will succeed, will make the republic twice as strong. Democratic society is greatly connected to this resolution. We must develop a collective and civil understanding that shapes the relationship between Kurds and the state positively. The state must also see that there are no destructive activities or any security threats.
Participation in the republic must be based on identity, freedom of thought, freedom of organization, and women's freedom. These realms of freedom are not limited to Kurds alone, but encompass everyone.
At this point, I attach importance to reaching the entire public through appropriate means so that my views regarding the process are understood correctly.
The solution of democratic integration is based on a society-based approach. The society-based solution imposes collective and cohesive democracy for social structures."
