On the Fifth Day of the Nagoya Tournament… Iranian Women Shine in Continental Competitions

Iranian female athletes shone on day five of the Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, winning gold and silver in rowing and wushu, confirming remarkable progress in continental competitions.

NewsCenter – The Nagoya 2026 Asian Games are witnessing wide competitions with the participation of athletes from various countries of the continent, as events continue in a number of individual and team sports amid escalating competition for medals, reflecting a diverse presence in one of the most prominent continental championships.

Iranian female athletes achieved a remarkable accomplishment on the fifth day of the Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, after winning two gold medals and two silver medals in the rowing and wushu (kung fu) competitions.

In the women's lightweight double sculls race, Zeynab Norouzi and Kimia Zarei took first place with a time of 6 minutes, 53 seconds, and 93 hundredths of a second, ahead of the Japan and Hong Kong teams, which came in second and third places.

This victory came hours after Fatemeh Jalal achieved the first gold medal in the history of Iranian women's rowing in the Asian Games, after winning the women's lightweight single sculls race with a time of 7 minutes, 24 seconds, and 57 hundredths of a second, making Iranian female athletes register a historic day in their continental participation record.

In the rowing competitions, the Iranian women's team consisting of Mahsa Javar, Soha Fakhri, Sagi Maleki, and Hengameh Kamyab won the silver medal after finishing in second place with a time of 6 minutes, 27 seconds, and 24 hundredths of a second, while the Chinese team won the gold and the Japanese team came third.

In wushu, Sogand Sinkai won the silver medal in the final of the 52-kilogram sanda weight category after losing to the Chinese Wu Di, following a series of victories she achieved over competitors from India, Vietnam, and Hong Kong to reach the final.

This strong performance reflects a rising presence of Iranian female athletes in the tournament, as they continue their participation in competitions including rowing, wushu, fencing, and kabaddi, amid competitions still ongoing in Nagoya.
