Women of Sulaymaniyah: We are not hopeful for elections

Parliamentary elections will be held in Iraq on October 10, 2021. While candidates have carried out their electoral campaigns and asked people to vote for them, the people don’t believe the candidates because they didn’t keep their promises in the previous elections. The women of Sulaymaniyah are reluctant to cast their votes in the elections.

Sulaymaniyah- People of Iraq are holding their breath for the parliamentary elections to be held in Iraq on October 10, 2021. While the candidates speed up their electoral campaigns; they visit citizens and ask their votes, the citizens are not hopeful for the elections.

İmam Fariq (19) will cast her vote for the first time, “I don’t want to cast my vote because everything is about money in this country. They (candidates) don’t listen to our demands, they only ask our votes. For this reason, we are not hopeful for the elections.”

“People get tired of promises”

Xeyriye Hamid doesn’t believe in the promises given by the ruling party and other political parties. “No one believes in the promises anymore. For this reason, many people don’t think to cast their votes.”

“People get tired of the promises of the parties. We don’t believe in any parties. In the past, the people used to wake up early to cast their votes but now they don’t want to vote,” said 38-year-old Amina Rehim.

“Most bought their seats”

Rewah Ferhad (29) doesn’t want to cast her vote in the upcoming elections because the candidates never keep their promises. “People have the right to be offended and they know very well which parliamentarians didn’t keep their promises. Most of the parliamentarians weren’t elected by people, they bought their seats.”

“I understand the people”

Benaz Şêx Tahir Kesezan, an independent candidate from Sulaymaniyah, thinks the people are right. “More than 2,000 banners of the candidates hung on the walls have been removed and tore up.”
