Speaking about the ongoing attacks on North and East Syria, PYD member Almaz Romî said, “The guarantor countries act according to their interest. They are here (NE Syria) supposedly to protect human rights but their silence shows their partnership with the Turkish state.”
BEYDA OSMAN
Kobanê - Almaz Romî, a member of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in NE Syria’s Euphrates Region, spoke to NuJINHA about the ongoing Turkish attacks in North and East Syria. First talking about the process of the Revolution in Rojava, which began on July 19, 2012, she said, “The first spark of the revolution started in Kobanê. The people of Kobanê began to govern themselves by abolishing the Baathist regime system. Those who led the revolution were women. In a short time, we built our organizational system, established our institutions and began to govern ourselves.”
“There is intolerance towards Kurds”
Noting that the people of Kobanê have organized themselves with the philosophy of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan, Almaz Romî said, “However, there is intolerance towards the Kurds. The Turkish state does not want the people of NE Syria to govern themselves. ISIS entered Rojava with the support of the Turkish state. But the YPJ and YPG fighters, the people of Kobanê and the young people from four parts of Kurdistan fought and defeated ISIS.”
“Women pioneers have been targeted”
Expressing that the Turkish state began to attack because it does not accept the defeat of ISIS, Almaz Romî said, “The Turkish state attacked and occupied Afrin, Girê Sipî and Serê Kaniyê. Its aim is to force the people to leave their homeland and to destroy the Autonomous Administration. Women pioneers have been targeted in the Turkish attacks. The Turkish state has killed many women pioneers until now.”
“The guarantor countries act according to their interest”
Speaking about the democratic nation project in NE Syria, Almaz Romî said, “The people have been organizing themselves in all spheres of life. The people are no longer what they used to be. They are more self-aware. The Turkish state openly attacks civilians and administrators of NE Syria every day. However, everyone remains silent against these attacks. The guarantor countries act according to their interest. They are here (NE Syria) supposedly to protect human rights but their silence shows their partnership with the Turkish state.
“We must protect ourselves”
“Everyone has been talking about the attacks on the Kurdistan Region. However, everyone remains silent against the daily attacks on North and East Syria. Aren't the children and civilians killed here not human beings? The silence shows that Russia and America are our worst enemies. For this reason, we do not want support from anyone. I only want to call on the Kurdish people; we must protect ourselves. Kobanê became a grave for ISIS and it will be a grave for the Turkish state and its partners.”
