“KDP failed in Shengal”
Meyan Nasir, a member of the Yazidi Women's Freedom Movement (TAJÊ), commented on the parliamentary elections held in Iraq on October 10, 2021. “Despite all the tricks, the KDP failed in Shengal. Yazidi community should unite against all dirty games.”
Shengal- The turnout in Iraq's parliamentary election held on October 10 didn’t exceed 41%. Many political parties objected to the election results. Until now, 356 applications have been submitted to the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission.
Meyan Nasir, a member of the Yazidi Women's Freedom Movement (TAJÊ), commented on the election results, “The elections weren’t held in a democratic environment, we don’t accept the election results.”
“Aren’t we the citizens of Iraq?”
Meyan Nasir drew attention to the electoral fraud and said, “We faced many obstacles on the election day. One of them was the breakdown of the voting machine. Most of us tried to cast our votes but we were sent back because “the machine doesn’t work’. This is a dirty game against the Yazidi community. They don’t want us to have a person representing us in the parliament. The Iraqi state stole our votes. So far, the Iraqi government has offered us nothing. Aren’t we the citizens of Iraq? Why the Iraqi state does try to ignore this reality? We are ignored because our belief is different. We respect all beliefs and everyone should respect our belief.”
“We will not allow them to enter Shengal”
“The KDP rigged the elections; they received no vote in Shengal,” Meyan Nasir said, emphasizing that they will never accept the existence of the KDP in Shengal. “The KDP forced the Yazidis staying in Southern Kurdistan camps to vote for them. Viyan Dexiil and Mehemed Xelil failed in Shengal. The people of Shengal voted for them. We will never forget what happened on August 3. We will not allow those who sold us to return to our homeland. My son was martyrized due to Barzani and I will never allow them to enter Shengal again. How can I allow them? How can I forget what happened to my son? They have no shame.”
Call for unity
Meyan Nasir recalled the statement of the KDP about their losses in Shengal, “All of them lost their lives while trying to steal our belongings in Shengal. We don't see them as martyrs. Freedom fighters are the ones who saved us. Yazidi community should unite against all dirty games and struggle for their freedom.”
