Qamişlo- On January 20, ISIS attacked the al-Sina’a prison located in Hasaka, NE Syria. 5.000 ISIS members were held in the prison. Al-Sina’a prison is known as an important prison not only for the region but also for the security of the whole world.
“At least 200 suicide terrorists participated in the attack”
After the attack, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) released a statement. “According to the confessions of the mercenaries who were arrested by our forces; at least 200 suicide terrorists participated in the attack. After preparations took place for 6 months; on January 20, at 19:30, they attacked the prison with car bombs. Simultaneously with the attack from outside of the prison, the mercenaries held in the prison attacked the employees of the prison, such as medical staff, food preparation workers as well as guards, and tried to escape from the prison. There is still no clear information about the fate of these workers. Our forces took the control of the prison again after clashes. More than 175 ISIS members were killed. During the three days, 27 of our fighters were martyred,” the SDF said in the statement.
“Everyone is aware of the danger”
Daliya Henan, a member of the women’s office of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), spoke to NuJINHA about the attack on the prison. “This attack was a planned attack. Everyone is aware of the danger of ISIS members. The ISIS members, who are from different countries, have settled in the countries of the Middle East, especially in Syria,” she told us.
“Turkish state and Syrian regime support them”
Recalling the resistance of the SDF against the attack on the prison, Daliya Henan continued to talk as follows:
“5000 ISIS members were arrested as part of the Baxoz operation. They have been held in the prison located in Hesekê. The threat of ISIS continues today because the sleeper cells of ISIS are waiting for orders to attack at any moment. Despite many calls, the states haven’t taken a step to prosecute the members of ISIS. This attack isn’t the first attack. The jailed members of ISIS tried to escape before. But we can say that the members of ISIS organized well before attacking the prison. The Turkish state and the Syrian regime support the members of ISIS.”
Stating that every party acts according to its own interests, Daliya Henan also commented on Turkey's attacks on Ain Isa and Shengal. “If ISIS resurfaces, it will pose threat for the whole world. The sleeper cells of ISIS are still active. They generally target security forces energy facilities and other infrastructure facilities.”
