21st Anniversary of UNSCR 1325: The resolution is important for women
Amel Moussa Belhaj, the Minister of Women, Family, Children, and Seniors (MFFES), made a speech to mark the 21st anniversary of the adoption of Security Council Resolution 1325. “The resolution is important for women,” she said in her speech.
Tunisia- United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, on women, peace, and security, was adopted unanimously by the UN Security Council on 31 October 2000. The resolution calls for the adoption of a gender perspective to consider the special needs of women and girls during the conflict, repatriation and resettlement, rehabilitation, reintegration, and post-conflict reconstruction. “Women must play a decisive role in peace processes”
In her speech, Amel Moussa Belhaj said, “The Resolution 1325 is very important with its legal definition protecting women. We need a comprehensive societal reform to implement the UNSCR resolution as it represents a strategic vision enabling women to achieve the status of a leading actor and the determinant of world security and peace, just like men.”
Amel Moussa Bejhaj recalled the national plan of the Republic of Tunisia to implement the UN SCR resolution 1325, which aims to empower women and girls, to enhance their participation in building peace and stability, to contribute to the elimination of all forms of gender-based discrimination. She also talked about the action taken by the Ministry of Women, Family, Children, and Seniors, “The ministry has participated in the symposiums initiated by the League of Arab States to launch practical plans since 2012.”
