Amed – Last year, Hamdüsena C., an imam in the Karpuzlu neighborhood of Diyarbakır’s Kulp district, sexually abused 10 children aged 10 and 12 in the mosque. After the children told the sexual abuse to their teachers, the children gave their statements in the presence of psychologists and said that Imam Hamdüsena C. had physically and sexually abused them for two years.

An arrest warrant was issued for the perpetrator

After the statement of the children. An arrest warrant was issued for imam Hamsüsena C. and he was sent to prison on charges of sexually abusing 10 children. But then he was released by the court pending the trial after the families of the children withdrew their complaints. Some people in the district have claimed that the families of the children were threatened by the mukhtar of the neighborhood and village guards to withdraw their complaints.

Threatened children withdrew their complaints

The children, who filed complaints against the imam, withdrew their complaints. According to received reports, the children withdrew their complaints for different reasons. The next hearing of the sexual abuse trial will be held on October 31, 2022.
