News Center- Turkish Constitutional Court has unanimously rejected the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) request for the postponement of the party’s closure case until the upcoming elections are over.

HDP Co-chair Mithat Sancar announced that they applied to the Constitutional Court for the postponement of the party’s closure case until the 2023 Presidential and parliamentary elections are over. A Constitutional Court rapporteur rejected the HDP request yesterday, claiming, “The court has a good grasp of the case, and the file of the case is sufficiently voluminous.”

On January 15, 2023, Turkish Constitutional Court blocked HDP bank accounts holding Treasury aid upon the request of the Chief Prosecutor's Office of Turkish Supreme Court of Appeals. After the party's additional defense, the decision to block the Treasury aid will be discussed again by the Constitutional Court.

The process of the closure case

On January 10, 20233, the Chief Public Prosecutor of the Supreme Court Bekir Şahin presented his final argument in the closure case against the HDP. After HDP’s defense, the Constitutional Court rapporteurs will collect evidence and documents related to the case and then will present their report. After the presentation of the report, the court will determine a date to have a meeting. At the meeting, they will discuss the closure case.
