Amed – 25-yer-old Etem Y. sexually abused four children, including two of his sisters, in the Silvan district of Diyarbakır province. The children told their parents that Etem Y. sexually abused them but their parents only warned Etem Y., not reported the sexual abuse. After the children’s school counselor reported the sexual abuse. Etem Y. has been arrested. The children filed a criminal complaint against Etem Y. while their parents did not.

Systematically sexually abuse

According to the received reports, Etem Y. sexually abused the children between 2018 and 2021. Although the children told the sexual abuse to their mothers, their mothers remained silent. Then, the children told the sexual abuse to their school counselor. The school counselor reported the sexual abuse to the police.

After the child sexual abuse was reported in December 2021, Etem Y. was arrested on charges of “sexually abusing” his two sisters and cousins. “I knew the sexual abuse. After my children told me the sexual abuse, I warned Etem. I will not file a complaint against him,” said the mother of Etem Y. in her statement at the police station.

Parents think children exaggerate the sexual abuse!

The parents of the other two children did not file a complaint against Etem Y. claiming that their children were under the influence of the school counselor and exaggerated the incident. After the investigation launched into the incident, the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office prepared an indictment and demanded prison sentence against Etem Y. on charges of “Sexually abusing children under the age of 12”.

The first hearing the child abuse case will be held on January by the Diyarbakır 6th High Criminal Court.
