Judge asks mother: Why did you attend your daughter’s commemoration ceremony?

Peace Mother Hadle Oğur was arrested while attending her daughter’s commemoration ceremony. At the hearing of the trial against her, the judge asked her, “Why did you attend your daughter’s commemoration ceremony?” She has faced three years and 15 days prison sentence for attending her daughter’s commemoration ceremony.

Rıha –Peace Mother Hadle Oğur has been on trial for 11 years for attending the commemoration ceremony held for her daughter Hilal Oğur, a PKK member. On November 27, 2010, Hilal Oğur lost her life. Hadle Oğur held a commemoration ceremony in September 2011 after hearing the death of her daughter. On September 20, police attacked the people attending the ceremony by using tear gas and detained 23 people. Hadle Oğur was one of the detained people. Six of the detainees were sent to prison on charges of “propagandizing for a terrorist organization”, “praising crime and criminals” and "resisting the police officers”.

She faces three years and 15 days prison sentence

Hadle Oğur, who was asked by the judge, “Why did you attend your daughter’s commemoration ceremony?” has been on trial since 2011 for attending her daughter’s commemoration ceremony. The prosecutor demands three years and 15 days prison sentence against her. Her case has been brought to the Court of Cassation. Stating that she has been subjected to both legal harassment and pressure since 2011, Hadle Oğur told us that she has received threats to not participate in the activities of Peace Mothers.

“A woman miscarried due to the attack”

Hadle Oğur told us what she has faced since the ceremony was held as follows: “They (police) attacked us by using tear gas. I remember very well that a woman miscarried due to tear gas. They broke the head and arms of many people and then detained them. They attacked us brutally. All people attending the ceremony were affected by the tear gas. After being detained, I was sent to court. The judge asked me, ‘Why did I attend the ceremony’. I told him it was my daughter’s commemoration ceremony. The police officers, who had attacked us, claimed that we had attacked them.”

“I have been subjected to pressures for years”

A lawsuit was opened against Hadle Oğur and she has been on trial since then. “Since then, many investigations have been launched against me and I have been detained many times. I have been subjected to both legal harassment and pressure for years. I have received threats to not take part in the activities of the Peace Mothers. But I’m not afraid of their threats and keep working.”

Despite all the pressures, Hadle Oğur has struggled as a Peace Mother for years. “I will struggle to the end,” she told us.
