Emine Şenyaşar stands trial for ‘insult’

The first hearing of the trial against Emine Şenyaşar on charges of “insulting President Erdoğan” over her remarks while holding her sit-in protest for justice was held on Thursday.

News Center- Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were murdered in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of former AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in the Suruç (Kurdish: Pirsûs) district of Urfa province on June 14, 2018, stood trial on Thursday on charges of “insulting President Erdoğan”.

 Emine Şenyaşar, her son and Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Riha (Urfa) MP Ferit Şenyaşar, their lawyers and the members of the Lawyers Association for Freedom (ÖHD) attended the first hearing of the trial held at the Urfa 11th Criminal Court of First Instance.

‘President Erdoğan and Süleyman Soylu terrorized the family’

At the hearing, Emine Şenyaşar denied the accusation, recalling that her family members had been killed. Emine Şenyaşar’s lawyer Ali Arslan also recalled the massacre against the Şenyaşar family and said, “Emine Şenyaşar started her protest for justice because justice was not served. The massacre was openly conducted. 35 investigations have been launched against Emine Şenyaşar and about 15 insult cases have been filed against her for demanding justice. President Erdoğan and Süleyman Soylu terrorized the family at that time. I demand the acquittal of my client.”

The next hearing will be held March 19, 2025.
