News Center - Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-chair Leyla Güven, who has been held in the Elazığ Closed Women’s Prison, has reportedly filed a criminal complaint against the warden, who threatened her because she put her hands in her pockets after she was taken to a section to get a COVID-19 vaccination in the prison. The lawyers of Leyla Güven also appealed to the Elazığ Judgeship of Execution against the 11-day solitary confinement given by the prison administration to their client for “threatening the warden”.
What happened?
Leyla Güven told her daughter Sabiha Temizkan that a warden had threatened her when her daughter visited her in the prison. Sabiha Temizkan announced that her mother had been threatened by a warden on her social media account.
“I visited my mother, Leyle Güven. She told me that she had been threatened by a male warden because she put her hands in her pockets in a section where she was taken to get a COVID-19 vaccination. The warden named İsmail told my mother, ‘Remove your hands from your pockets.' When my mother refused, he openly threatened her saying, ‘You will see later.' My mother, Leyla Güven told me that the warden continued to threaten her although other wardens and the 2nd Director of the Prison tried to prevent him. My mother told me, ‘If they weren’t there, he would probably inflict physical violence against me’. My mother told me she would file a criminal complaint against the warden.
After the incident, 11-day solitary confinement was given by the prison administration to Leyla Güven for “insulting or threatening a public officer”.
