Mêrdin – 65-year-old Peace Mother İncile Fidan, who was sentenced to six years and three months in prison on the charge of “membership of an armed terrorist organization”, cannot meet her own needs in prison due to her heart disease. In 2016, she received the prison sentence solely based on anonymous witness statements without any concrete evidence and she was arrested in the Elfan (Yeşilalan) village of Mardin’s Savur district on January 3, 2022, and sent to Mardin E-type Closed Prison to serve her prison sentence. She has suffered from advanced heart disease and she has reportedly felt unwell in prison.
She was sentenced to prison based on anonymous witness statements
After an explosion took place in the center of Mardin province in 2015, İncile Fidan’s nephew Feyzi Fidan was held responsible for the explosion and detained. İncile Fidan was also detained for living with her nephew. An indictment was prepared against her solely based on a statement of an anonymous witness namely “Yıldırım”, who claimed, “İncile Fidan hid Feyzi and other people in her house. These people lived in her house” on charges of “keeping all weapons and ammunition in her house.”
No concrete evidence
In the indictment, there was no concrete evidence except the anonymous witness statements. But İncile Fidan was sentenced to six years and three months in prison on charges of “membership of an armed terrorist organization”.

In January 2022, İncile Fidan was arrested and sent to prison after her prison sentence was upheld. According to the information taken by her relatives, she constantly feels unwell in prison due to her heart disease and she has to take medicines and cannot eat everything in the prison. Her relatives told us that İncile Fidan has difficulty living in prison due to her old age and health problems. “She should be released from the prison before her health deteriorates,” they said
