Amed – According to the reports, high criminal courts made decision in a total of 29,822 child abuse cases in 2021. The number of decisions increased by 32.55% compared to 2020. The number of criminal cases in 2021 was recorded as 20,459. While the number of child abuse cases increases day by day in Turkey, children are sexually abused in public areas, houses and schools.

Children were subjected to sexual abuse

As necessary measures are not taken to prevent child abuse, one of the child abuse case took place in the Sur district of Diyarbakır province. An English teacher named Servet B, works at a Religious Vocational High School in Sur, sexually abused his four students. In April, 2021, four students went to a police station to file a criminal complaint against the teacher.

An investigation launched against the teacher

In their statements at the police station, the students said their teacher told them,“Are you a lesbian, do you have a boyfriend. If a man trembles when he approaches you, it means he likes you. Come to my house to clean it.” An investigation was launched against the teacher after the students filed a criminal complaint against him. Servet B. denied the accusations and claimed that the students slandered him.

An indictment prepared against him

As part of the investigation, an indictment was prepared against the teacher in September. The teacher faces four prison sentences on charges of “Sexually abusing” four children.

First hearing will be held on December 19

The first hearing of the sexual abuse case will be held by the Diyarbakır 5th Criminal Court of First Instance. It is unknown if the teacher, who has been released by the court pending the trial, still works as a teacher or not.
