Zainab Miskaoui makes her living by working as car guard in Morocco

Zainab Miskaoumi works as a car guard in Morocco due to the tough economic conditions in order to make a living. “Women are capable of doing all jobs,” she says.

Morocco- Zainab Miskaoumi began to participate in the labor force by working as a street peddler. Although there are very few women working as car guards in Morocco, she decided to work as a car guard in a short time. She makes a living by working as a car guard in Sidi Bernoussi, a district and suburb of northeastern Casablanca. As NuJINHA team, we visited her.

She is happy to work as a car guard

Mother of three, Zainab Miskaoumi has worked as a car guard for seven years. “I applied to the municipality and got my certificate to work as a car guard. I have worked as a car guard for seven years. I am happy to work as a car guard. I make a living for myself and my family by working as a car guard.”

Her daughter helps her with housework

Speaking about the challenges faced by her while working both inside and outside the home, Zainab Miskaoumi told us, “My 14-year-old daughter helps me with housework. I have no health insurance. Few women work as car guards. I gain the trust of the drivers with my experiences. Every day, I meet many people from all professions and classes and all of them respect me.”

Zainab Miskaoumi is in charge of finding parking spots for cars and ensuring the safety of those cars until their owners return and often charges a nominal fee for her effort. “Although I earn not much money, I can meet many expenses by working as a car guard. Women are capable of doing all jobs.”
