Qamishlo- Bêrîvan Elî has achieved her economic independence by opening a small shop in the city of Amuda, Jazira Canton of North and East Syria. Selling household items and school stationery supplies at her shop, Bêrîvan Elî aims to expand her business.

Bêrîvan Elî sold household items online before opening her shop. “I used to sell household items on my social media accounts. I managed to open my own shop thanks to the help and support of people. If you are a smiling shopkeeper and love your job, people prefer you for shopping.”

‘When I first opened the shop, everything seemed very difficult to me’

Speaking about the challenges faced by her when she first opened her shop, Bêrîvan Elî said, “When I first opened the shop, everything seemed very difficult to me. I did not know how to buy and sell the products. The high prices of the products was another challenge for me. I overcame all the difficulties. Now, I sell household items and school stationery supplies such as pencils, erasers and bags.”

‘Women should participate in the labor force’

Bêrîvan Elî called on all women to participate in the labor force. “Women should not feel ashamed of working. Women have the capacity to work. Now, I am a strong woman and buy all the materials I need for my shop. I want to expand my business in the future. Women have a strong will and they can achieve significant success in working life.”
