Morocco- Moroccan women pastry chefs have developed many projects and started many cooperatives. Thanks to these cooperatives, the number of women participating in the labor forces has been increasing. Rabia Azmi is a woman enjoying making desserts and traditional local food in Safi, a city of Morocco. She becomes a role model for many Moroccan women by starting a cooperative named “Masafawi”. Now, many women work for the cooperative by making many local and international desserts.

“We started a collective work”

Rabia Azmi told us how they decided to start a cooperative as follows: “Actually, there are many working women in the region. We wanted to start a collective work. For this reason, we decided to start a cooperative for all working women.”

“We make the most famous desserts of the region”

Stating that most of the members of the cooperative are experts in making local desserts of Safi, Rabia Azmi said, “We make the most famous desserts of the region and I can say we are good at it. We started the cooperative as five women. We work very hard to deliver the orders in time.”

Call on Moroccan women

Underlining that the Covid-19 pandemic also affected them, Rabia Azmi said, “But we overcame all difficulties we faced. I call on all Moroccan women, who want to stand on their own feet to take part in collective production such as cooperatives.”
