Gazan women try to find an alternative while there are no job opportunities. Sujood and Raghda Qudeih are two of these women. They started their own business; baking tandoori bread in order to support their family and stand on their own feet.

“We try to overcome the crisis”

Sujood Qudeih is a 40 years old woman living in the Gaza Strip. “Many people love tandoori bread and buy it. Actually, this business does not have a good income; it is tiring. But I try to survive by baking tandoori bread in order to overcome the economic crisis. Tandoori bread has a special place in Palestine,” she told us.

She could not find a job despite being a university graduate

Sujood Qudeih is a university graduate. She looked for a job for months but could not find one. “We start working in the early hours of the morning. We bake about 200 pieces of bread every day.”

“I want to reach my dreams”

Raghda Qudeih is a 31 years old woman baking tandoori bread in the Gaza Strip. Pointing out that baking tandoori bread especially in summer is very difficult, she said, “Whenever I try to light the tandoori oven, smoke gets in my eyes. I have dreams and I want to reach them. One of my dreams is to be able to stand on my own feet. We want to expand our tandoori business in future.”
