Shehba-
35-year-old Wesfiya El-Haci is one of the women who lost a part of their body as a result of the attacks of ISIS. Mother of two daughters, Wesfiya El-Haci lost one of her daughters in the attack of ISIS on Shehba.

In 2015, ISIS attacked many villages, including the village of Wesfiya El-Haci, to take the control of these villages. “Sometimes, the clashes between ISIS and other armed groups lasted hours. ISIS members raided our house one night. They forced us to leave our house and we were displaced from our village to al-Shahba village.”

When she and her family were forcibly displaced to the al-Shahba village, they didn’t take anything from their house. “For this reason, we decided to return to our village to take our belongings. I returned to our house with my husband and two daughters. We didn’t know what we would face. When we entered the house, a bomb placed by ISIS in our house exploded,” Wesfiya El-Haci told NuJINHA.

She lost her daughter

Stating that she doesn’t remember what happened at that moment, Wesfiya El-Haci said, “I lost consciousness. When I won consciousness, I found myself in a hospital in Babê. I had been held in the intensive care unit for several hours. When I won consciousness, I learned that one of my daughters had died. I lost one of my legs and my husband also lost one of his legs. At that moment, our life completely changed. My other daughter’s body was also burned. We fled to Turkey for treatment. We underwent surgery there.” Wesfiya El-Haci cannot forget that day even if six years have passed. “The explosion changed my life. My husband left us and we have to live in Shehba now. Shehba Free Women's Units support me,” she said.

Call on the international community

Wesfiya El-Haci called on international organizations and institutions: “ISIS committed many crimes against women and civilians. Those who wounded and killed our children should be prosecuted.”
