“Iraqi women’s group is here” continues to work for women
“Iraqi women’s group is here” is a women’s organization founded in Iraq in 2018. The organization has organized many campaigns and protests since its foundation. Shaima Behzad, the president of the organization, spoke to NuJINHA about their works in Iraq. “We have launched more than 50 campaigns. Iraqi women are the symbol of peace,” she said.

Baghdad- After the Iraqi regime’s ouster in 2003, Iraqi women began to organize themselves. They have founded many organizations and one of these organizations is “Iraqi women’s group is here.” The organization, which was founded in 2013, has carried out feminist works and supported women demanding their freedom. 39-year-old Shaima Behzad, the president of the organization, is also an engineer. She spoke to our news agency about the works of the organization.
“Change begins with education”
Shaima Behzad spoke about the idea of founding the “Iraqi women’s group is here". “Change begins with education. Educated and successful women can encourage and strengthen other women. They can be role models for other women. For this reason, girls should access education. Our works are for girls, women, and mothers to take them out of men's control. Our team has organized educational programs to raise awareness of women and girls on their power.”
The “Iraqi women’s group is here” has hundreds of members now and the members have carried out 50 campaigns for women and children. One of their campaigns is “Solidarity with Poor Families”. “We help women and families within the scope of the campaign. We know that women need each other.
“We have launched 15 campaigns for cancer patients”
Pointing out that the pandemic and economic situation are worsening the situation of cancer patients in Iraq, Shaima Behzad said, “We have launched 15 campaigns to provide medicines for cancer patients until now. We also gave presents to children with cancer.”
“Iraqi women are the symbol of peace”
The team members have also organized many events for their society to have a common idea about different religions, sects, and nations. They have also held many actions on different topics such as cultural events, festivals, and workshops that concern the country. Shaima Behzad emphasized that Iraqi women are the symbol of peace.
