Expressing that she has been interested in handicrafts since her childhood, Iptîhal Mehmûd said, “I have loved handicrafts since my childhood. I studied fine arts and now teach children how to make handicrafts at the Hêzil Culture and Art Center. When young women come to the center to learn how to make handicrafts, I feel very happy.”
“This is not a job but art for me”
Speaking about the importance of handicrafts, she said, “I want to teach women how to make handicrafts because I have loved handicrafts since my childhood. Many people ask me how I make handicrafts. I feel more lively and sociable when I work. We learn many knitting patterns from each other. In the past, women gathered in villages to knit dolls and sweaters. Now, we knit and make handicrafts at the Hêzil Culture and Art Center.”
