Shahba- Kurdish woman Jina Mahsa Amini (22) was killed in Iran on September 16 by the so-called morality police. Following her death, protests started in Iran and Rojhelat Kurdistan.

The Hîlala Zêrîn Cultural Movement in Afrin Region has released a song named, “Jîna” to support the ongoing protests in Iran and Rojhelat Kurdistan. One of the musical groups of the movement, Şehîd Hêva (Martyr Hêva) members shot the video in Shahba Canton.

“We are all Jina Amini”

Hêva Mihemed, member of the musical group, said that they wrote the song to condemn the killing of Jina Mahsa Amini and emphasized that women are always targeted because they lead their society. “We wanted to support women's struggle with art and culture. We will make their voices be heard all around the world. We are all Jina Amini and never remain silent against gender-based violence,” she told NuJINHA.

Another group member, Şîlan Omer said, “We named the song after Jina Mahsa Amini. Jina Amini was detained and killed by Iranian security forces. We, as members of the Hîlala Zêrîn, played our role to show that there are thousands of women like Jina Amini. The song is about femicide, women’s anger for revenge and tells how women struggle.”
