Gaza- Palestinian artist Tahani Skaik has held an art exhibition named “Dream and Reality” in the Gaza Strip. At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, which will be open for seven days, Tahani Skaik said that her paintings reflect women's issues in general and the issues of Palestinians in particular. The artist has held seven local and international exhibitions over the past years and the “Dream and Reality” exhibition is her eighth exhibition. “This exhibition shows the life of women between reality and hope,” she said.

‘My paintings reflect the dreams and reality of women’

Speaking about her paintings, she said that her paintings reflect the dream and reality of women. “Palestinian women suffer from Israeli siege and attacks. They are the most vulnerable group in our society. They also suffer from social norms that destroy their dreams, lives and hopes.”

‘My panting named ‘The Key’ expresses the hope of displaced women’

Talking about her painting named “The Key”, she said, “This painting expresses hope of refugee and displaced women for return to their homeland. Displaced and refugee women are subjected to all kinds of violence. Another painting focuses on family issues. Through my paintings, I give a message to women that women can overcome all barriers even if they face challenges.”

Artist Tahani Skaik has won many awards and participated in many local and international exhibitions as a member of the General Union of Palestinian Artists. She held a position in the Palestinian Ministry of Culture and she worked as a painting teacher in several schools in Kuwait and Palestine as part of her position.

‘Palestinian women are creative women’

Palestinian writer Fathia Sarsour also attended the art exhibition. In an interview with NuJINHA, she said, “Artist Tahani Skaik has managed to express the suffering of the Palestinian people by addressing social issues faced by women without using a word. The Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip also negatively affects Palestinian artists. They are prevented from travelling abroad and participating in international exhibitions. The paintings of Tahani Skaik show the sufferings of women and the conditions they are in.”
