Qamishlo- The 2nd Mardutho Festival, held at the Al-Salam Hall in Qamishlo by the Syriac Cultural Association in North and East Syria to promote and reflect Syriac culture and art, kicks off in Qamishlo.

Making a speech on behalf of the Syriac Women’s Association, Sebah Şabo said the aim of the festival was to promote and pass down Syriac culture and art. “We, as the Syriac Women’s Association, have participated in the festival by holding an exhibition. At the exhibition, we display handicrafts made by our mothers. Women play an important role in preserving and passing down culture.”

In her speech, Sebah Şabo underlined that Kurds, Arabs, Syriac, Yazidis, Circassians and Turkmens have lived together in North and East Syria for centuries and their cultures have been influenced by each other. “Today, we are free to practice our culture under the umbrella of the Autonomous Administration.”

Syriac culture will be reflected

The Elias Hanna and Tuma Nahroyo choirs will perform at the festival. “We wanted to participate in the festival with our traditional songs. We think this festival is an important festival to promote and reflect Syriac culture and art,” one of the members of the Tuma Nahroyo choir told NuJINHA.

The festival will last three days in the Hasakah city of North and East Syria.
